Single pane windows only contain one layer of glass. Where as dual pane windows are made up of two layers of glass, along with a space in between that is filled with air or Argon gas.
Single-pane windows transmit noise easily and outside noises are amplified and more noticeable from inside the home. Because double-pane windows have two separate pieces of glass, the windows have a greater ability of reducing the transmissions from external noises.
In terms of heating and cooling, single-pane windows transmit heat and cold coming from outside much more readily. As a result, homeowners end up paying more for heating and cooling bills. Due to two layers of glass and the air space in between, a thermal barrier is created, minimizing outside weather from impacting a home’s interior comfort.
