Installing new windows can transform your home. It can bring more light into the house, reduce your heating and cooling costs, and boost your curb appeal. When it comes to deciding which windows to purchase, you may be surprised at the number of options. However, not all windows are the same, and some are much better quality than others. One of the best names in the industry is Simonton windows. You may have also heard of Anderson windows. While these windows aren’t the lowest quality out there, there are several reasons why Simonton is the better option.

Simonton Windows Use Advanced Materials

One of the first differences that many Simonton Windows reviews discuss is the materials the company uses. Anderson windows make use of traditional materials such as wood, composites, vinyl, fiberglass, and aluminum. These are very standard, time-tested materials that many window companies use. They’re common materials for windows because you know exactly what you’re going to get.

On the other hand, Simonton has invested a good amount of resources into testing new materials. Their windows make use of premium vinyl, laminated glass, special coatings, and even argon. These materials and the processes Simonton has developed allow the company to offer some of the most durable and energy-efficient windows on the market today. Vinyl is an excellent insulator, while the special coatings added to the glass block out UV rays and help refract heat. Simonton windows also use a spacer system that creates pockets for argon gas. The gas, which is non-toxic, works as an additional insulator, keeping your home comfortable no matter how hot or cold it gets outside.

This Makes Simonton Windows Very Cost-Efficient

Because they’re so insulated, being energy-efficient is one of Simonton’s trademarks. Experts know they’re the go-to window for those looking to reduce their energy usage, and ENERGY STAR has recognized the company for its work in energy efficiency. While Anderson windows are also energy efficient when compared to some other options, their reliance on traditional materials will always hold them back from meeting the standards Simonton sets. If you’re concerned about your utility bills, Simonton windows will help you save money by preventing air loss.

There are a few different upgraded Simonton window options for those who are planning out a green, very energy-efficient home. For example, the company does offer different levels of window spacer, including Intercept, Supercept, and Super Spacer options that help reduce the amount of air that escapes through the glass. Their SpectraClear glass is designed to make use of their special glass coatings and insulating pockets without blocking out any light. This is an excellent option for kitchens, living rooms, and other spaces where you want a lot of natural light.

What About the Warranty?

Both Simonton and Anderson offer limited warranties. However, there is a significant difference between the Anderson Windows warranty and what Simonton offers. Anderson’s limited warranty covers ten years of protection for everything not made from glass, and for the glass part of the window, the warranty lasts for 20 years.

That’s actually very good, but the Simonton Windows warranty is even better. They call it a double-lifetime warranty. This means that you can replace the insulating glass, vinyl, screens, and hardware for as long as you own the home. However, it doesn’t end there. The “double” lifetime means that whoever owns your home after you also gets a lifetime of replacements. The warranty is fully transferable whether you sell the house or leave it to a child as their inheritance. It’s very unusual to get a warranty like this, especially when it comes to windows and other home renovation products.

How Long Does it Take to Get Your Replacement Windows?

If you’re in need of window replacement, you may not want to wait weeks or months. The team at Simonton understands this, which is why they do everything possible to reduce their wait time. However, even with using advanced machinery and techniques, it’s impossible to eliminate lead time completely. Windows often have to be made custom for every home, even if it’s just to match the exterior coloring. If your windows are non-standard size or shape, you’re going to have to have custom windows manufactured.

Typically, Simonton takes between three and six weeks for every order. Andersen, on the other hand, typically takes four to eight weeks. The lead-time will be on the shorter end for standard size and shape. However, if you need something truly custom, you can expect it to take a few weeks more.

Cost

Cost is a factor in any home renovation project. Many people want to know the average cost of replacing windows before looking. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to estimate due to the various factors involved. Some basic windows may only cost a few hundred dollars to replace, while unique windows can be a few thousand each. Your location and the current cost and availability of materials also play a part. Nationally, the average cost of a new window is around $650.

Simonton falls within that range. Because they use newer materials that are more affordable, they can beat Andersen in cost. However, it’s always important to get a specific quote for your home before planning your budget. If you have several non-standard-sized or shaped windows, you will need to account for that in your budgeting. Also, remember that the cost of a window typically does not include the labor needed to remove the old window and install the new one.

Style

Both Simonton and Andersen offer a variety of different finishes. Simonton currently offers eight different exterior looks and six interior options. You’re sure to find one that works with both the exterior and interior of your home. These looks are available for all of their windows. With Andersen, the company does offer various finishes, but not all of these options are available for every type of window. Some of their window options are only available in a couple of different styles. This means you may find one you really like only to learn that it isn’t available for the window type you want.

In addition to colors, Simonton windows come in several different styles. While your home remodeling project may call for clear glass in most of your windows, you may need something a little different in a few places. For example, you may want to use frosted glass for a window that looks into your bathroom. Flemish and reeded patterned glass can look gorgeous for a front door or for small windows on either side of your door. They offer many different options, some of which you may have never considered before.
