How to Tile a Shower Stall
What to consider for a successful bathroom remodel:
-
- Raised Decorative Tile: If not properly planned for, raised tile can cause havoc for a glass shower enclosure. If you are planning on installing raised tile, it is best if you install a matching flat tile where the tile meets the glass. For the door area, it should wide enough to accommodate the door swing. If this is not done when the tile is installed, all is not lost. A notch can be made in the raised tile to accommodate the glass.
- Seats or Benches: If you decide that you want to have a seat or bench in your shower it should be slightly sloped down toward the base of the shower for the water to run off towards the drain.
- Curb: The curb must be pitched with a slight slant towards the shower. A flat curb will create standing water and potential water runoff onto the floor. A curb that is sloped outward will direct water onto the floor. If your curb is flat or sloped outwards, a threshold can be used to create a dam.
- Wall Needs: It is best if the walls are plumb. We can install glass on walls that are not plumb, but it is more expensive. The walls do have to be straight however, with no bows in or out.
