Simonton enjoys a well-deserved reputation for its energy-efficient windows and doors. These benefits can be derived from all of the manufacturer’s product lines, including those where frosted glass is used. Many of our customers ask if cleaning frosted glass is more difficult and time-consuming than “regular” glass. We believe adding this beautiful glass option to your home is well worth the little bit of extra time that’s spent on maintaining it.

Types of Frosted Glass

Body standing behind frosted glassArchitects and interior designers have always known that glass can be functional and make a statement. The term “frosted glass” typically refers to any type of glass that has translucent or semi-opaque properties. This glass style offers a variety of applications for homeowners:

  • Uniform flow of natural light throughout a room.
  • Unlimited patterns created by using different materials like sand, acid, and film.
  • Visual privacy for bathrooms, sunrooms, basements, offices, etc.
  • Partitions that create a modern and elegant aesthetic.

Long considered a more streamlined alternative to blinds or curtains, frosted glass is the ideal solution for areas where you crave visual privacy but want to allow light to pass through the glass.

Cleaning Frosted Glass

Because it’s a textured surface, cleaning frosted glass takes a little extra effort. But aside from that, it only requires some simple cleaning supplies. Be sure to wear rubber or latex gloves while cleaning frosted glass so you don’t leave any fingerprints behind!

  1. Spray commercial, ammonia-based glass cleaner on the frosted glass windows, doors, or panels. Avoid citrus-infused cleaners because they contain acid and can damage the glass surface. For more stubborn stains, use an equal mix of water and vinegar. Up against even tougher stains? Add half a cup of baking soda to the water/vinegar solution.
  2. Using crumpled newspaper, an abrasive sponge, or paper towels, rub the frosted glass in a circular motion. Use the abrasive sponge if the frosted glass’ microscopic pits are particularly dirty.
  3. Sometimes frosted glass, especially windows and doors in the bathroom, suffer metallic “dings.” Use a piece of wet, similar grade emery paper to gently smooth them away.

Follow up by simply giving the frosted glass one last go-over with the window cleaner and then drying the surface with a paper towel or clean microfiber cloth.
