Frosted glass windows and glass inserts are a popular and beautiful addition to any home. While a simple frosted glass cleaner works great at helping them look their best, some rooms, especially the kitchen and bath, may require a little more effort.

Frosted Glass Cleaner for Tough Stains

Glass cabinet doors are a great choice for adding style to your kitchen. But they’re also susceptible to some pretty tough stains, particularly grease. In the bathroom, frosted glass looks great and provides privacy while letting in natural light, but it can end up with some pretty serious hard water stains.

The rougher texture of frosted glass doesn’t make it a whole lot harder to clean than regular glass, but a few special techniques make the process easier. For those tougher blemishes, give these tips and tricks a try.

  • Gently wipe the glass with a feather duster to get all loose particles out from any etching and prevent scratching while cleaning.
  • Try an ammonia-based frosted glass cleaner first and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • For hard water stains, combine salt and water and apply the mixture to the stained area. Use a clean cloth to rub the stain in a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly to remove all saltwater.
  • Baking soda is also a good, safe abrasive, but don’t use hard bristle brushes or other abrasive cleaning tools on glass. A soft sponge or cloth is best.
  • Many home cleaners use toothpaste instead of baking soda. Just apply some regular toothpaste to a moist cloth towel and rub it over the stain as you did with the salt and water. After a few minutes, rinse off the toothpaste with equal parts vinegar and water to remove the residue.

Finally, some people swear by “magic” and “eraser” cleaning pads for removing tough stains from frosted glass.

Prevent Future Frosted Glass Stains

A little preventative care helps prevent stains happening in the first place. Be sure to quickly clean off a stain when it happens. The longer it sits, the more difficult it will be to remove. The worst case scenario is that it will become permanently etched into the glass.
