California Earthquake Damage - Window Repair NapaThe recent California Earthquake has kept many contractors busy over the past several weeks. For window repair Napa and the surrounding areas have turned to local contractors who have broad experience with repairing a large variety of damaged properties. For D and D Glassworks, it has been a very busy time.

While there was severe damage all over Sonoma County, there was even more of what many would consider to be minor damage. We are still addressing many repairs despite the fact that the largest quake (6.0) was over a week ago. There have been a relatively steady stream of quakes and aftershocks since then and the damage continues. Our phones continue to ring.

BEWARE: We have noticed a lot of out of state companies are canvassing the streets around Napa, handing out their business card, and asking for the window repair jobs.  We have heard reports too that there are also a lot of unlicensed contractors soliciting for business as well.

Some examples of repairs we have done after the recent California earthquake and aftershocks:

  • Commercial Storefront Glass – Obviously these repairs were urgent to help the local businesses avoid problems with looting
  • Dual Pane Glass replacement – more on dual pane glass here
  • Shower Glass & hardware – a lot of shower glass broke during the earthquake and sometimes damaged the hardware as well
  • Old Wood Sash window glass repair – It is important to note: These repairs require a special putty and an experienced craftsman.  Putty installation is becoming a lost art, and many glaziers do not have the skill, so they use a white caulking which looks horrible!  Some may try to use the putty, but without the proper training, they do it very poorly.  D and D Glassworks has the experience and mastery to make a wood sash window look like new. Napa has a lot of old wood sash windows, especially in the historic districts.
Our hearts go out to all of those who were affected by this recent barrage of California earthquakes. As long time California residents, we know it will settle down soon.
