Single Pane Glass vs Dual Pane Glass

Single Pane and Double Pane ExampleSingle pane windows only contain one layer of glass.  Where as dual pane windows are made up of two layers of glass, along with a space in between that is filled with air or Argon gas.

Single-pane windows transmit noise easily and outside noises are amplified and more noticeable from inside the home.  Because double-pane windows have two separate pieces of glass, the windows have a greater ability of reducing the transmissions from external noises.

In terms of heating and cooling, single-pane windows transmit heat and cold coming from outside much more readily. As a result, homeowners end up paying more for heating and cooling bills. Due to two layers of glass and the air space in between, a thermal barrier is created, minimizing outside weather from impacting a home’s interior comfort.
